I thought the program was great. I enjoyed learning about all the new technology out there...trying out Twitter (haven't been back),
RSS feeds etc. I especially liked learning and using (in no particular order) the Prezi, podcasts, uploading Utube videos, igoogle, gadgets, wordl and smilebox.
Kudos for coming up with the idea---it was a very big undertaking. Great idea, Thankyou!

Week 13, Thing 22 - Library Thing & Smilebox
Library thing is great. I shall use it to keep track of my favourite authors, the books I've read, etc. Definitely a keeper.
I tried the Smilebox, it is definitely a fun tool. Can't wait to try it out more.

Week 13, Thing 21, Wordle
Thing 21, Wordle
Now this is LOTS of fun. You don't even have to sign up to use it and it's super easy and very pleasing. I ~like~ it. For my own info the website is: http://www.wordle.net/

Week 12, Things 19 and 20 Online mapping & GIS
GIS stands for Geographic or Geospatial Information System. I have used these many times to find directions to and from places but now I know how to create my own map! Awsome! If I have a relative or friend coming into town, I could send a visual to them. We use Google Earth alot at home.
Week 11, Thing 18 - Widgets
Week 11, Thing 18, Widgets
I enhanced my igoogle webpage by adding the Countdown widget/gadget to my iGoogle account as well I added a calendar. Not crazy about the calendar but don't have time to change it and try another. In real life, I use a 'real' paper calendar and I like to mark my stuff on there, who needs a computer to do that? I'm sure it would be useful to people who live and breathe their life on a computer tho.
Somehow the words 'commercialism' and 'consumerism' keep popping into my brain as I work with these 'Things'.

Week 11, Thing 17 Social bookmarking
Diigo website would be a great way to organize your favourites if you had alot of them but I don't so I don't really feel I need to use this web site at this time but it is nice to know it is there.

Week 10, Things 15 & 16 - Social Networking and Twitter
I am a member of Facebook but I keep it small and private (less than 50 friends). I feel with social networking you can spend waaaay too much time on a computer than I care to. I find that I try to resist it and therefore did not feel compelled to check out "linkedin" and 'qzone' and 'bebo' etc. You can spend hours looking around those sites.
I signed up to Twitter to have a look around, but again, another website, more white noise to read, more of the same. I'm just not that interested in it. I'd use it if I had to, but I'd rather be out biking and not sitting on my butt in front of a computer reading tweets.

Week 9, Thing 14 - Photosharing
I 'flickered' through "Flickr". Just did not strike up any excitment in me to explore much or do anything with and I guess that is okay too.

Week 7, Thing 11 & 12 - Wikis and Wikipedia
Week 7, thing 11 & 12
The Wikis and Wikipedia
I found that Wikis are a big subject to read about and I really didn't get into it because I had no real reason to apply it to anything. I have never had an opportunity to use it but I probably will in the future when it comes to LLPD homework. At least I'll have had a slight introduction to it.

Week 6, Thing 10 - Podcasts
I managed to add two Podcasts to my "subscriptions" in Google Reader and the same two to my RSS feeds in igoogle. I found some pods very interesting and I found some very monotonous and boring. I found one I wanted to add but accidently lost it and found it impossible to find again.
With help, I managed to add an RSS feed to my blog. Notes for myself on how I did this: From the menu at the top choose DESIGN, click on ADD A GADGET, slide down the lists until you come across the orange RSS "FEED" icon. Click on the +[PLUS sign] and paste the URL in. Click on CONTINUE, then SAVE. It now appears on the right side of the homepage.

Week 6, Thing 9 - YouTube-placing a video inside your blog
This blog is for Week 6, Thing 9
Notes for me on how I did this:
From the YouTube site, once you have a video, look for "Embed" click on it and then copy the url. Now go to the the Blogger's site, (here) click on the Edit HTML tab and paste the url into the blog's text area. When you go to publish it magically turns into a video looking window.

Prezi Account
This blog covers Week 5, Thing 8 - Prezi, an alternative to using Power Point.
It is quite fun to use but would need much repetitious use in order to be any good at it as is with most computer programs right? I have not figured out how to edit within my text (drop a word, add a coma or something) I can only delete the whole piece of text and start again. [okay, thanks to Kate I now know you can
just double click-see her post below].
My next task is to link my blog to my prezi so y'all (shades of Ellen DeGeneris)can see it. Good luck to me as I have no immediate recollection on how to do that. Okay, note to me on how to link, go to Link button located right here in the blog's toolbar and click, how easy is that! follow instructions. I was also shown another way, go into your Prezi site.click on 'embed" copy stuff in there, then come here. then it gets a little fuzzy, something about clicking on EDIT HTML, and pasting it in. I need another demo on that one.

RRS Feeds and Google Reader
This blog is for Week 3, Things 4 & 5 - RRS Feeds and Google Reader
I never got a chance to post a blog for it last week so better late than never, here goes...
I found that not that many sites have RRS feeds and finally just had to go to the RSS "feeds directory" in order to practice adding them. I added one and not really on anything I'm interested in, couldn't even tell you what it is without going back to look, then the new "Survivor Redemption Island" started and we're playing the game here at work and we needed to check the website for something and lo and behold, I spied an orange RSS feed button. I went through the steps of subscribing to it and adding it to Google Reader. I thought I was done and could read it in igoogle but realized I had to add it to that page as well. Could I have skipped google reader completely and gone straight to igoogle? Probably, so where does that leave google reader...who really uses it for what...you'd use it for ~all~ feeds and only put your favs on igoogle?

Google Docs & Spreadsheets
This blog is for Week 4, Things 6, and Thing 7 "Google Documents and Spreadsheets".
It was a short, sweet introduction and I'm sure it has wonderful potential as an office tool.
Maybe someday I'll even have something that I can use it for.

Blogging
I have never blogged before so all this is new to me. I am taking the 23 things course to become more familiar with whatever is out there. igoogle page in Thing 1 week 1 went fairly smoothly, Am now working on Week 2, Thing 2. Is there a way to drag a gadget you have placed on your home page to a tab? Does not seem like you can click or drag. I am wanting to find the blog page where I saw Iffats name and Pat's name. Let you know when I do.
